Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse on health, leading to reduced life expectancy. Obesity is considered as a chronic ( long term ) disease like high blood pressure or diabetes.

You will categorized as obese if your Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 30.
What is BMI? BMI is a measure of your body fat based on height and weight (for both adult men and women). BMI is also used to define a person as over weight (pre-obese) when their body mass index is between 25kg/m2 and 30 kg/m2.

How to calculate BMI? There are two methods to calculate how many is your BMI.
The metric BMI method accepts weight measurements in kgs and height measurements in centimeters or meters.
1 meter = 100 cms


The Imperial BMI method accepts weight measurements in pounds and height measurements in inches or feet.
1 foot = 12 inches

Why am i become obese?

Obesity can occur to any body. Obesity will occurs when you eat more calories than you use it. Your body will keep that extra calories in fat form. The balance between intake calories and calories-out differs for each person. Many factors that may cause the obesity include eating high-fat foods, overaeting, genetic makeup, and not being physically active.

Diseases related to obesity and overweight

Researches have shown that obesity and overweight have important role in the increase of the risks for the following conditions : coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancers (endometrial, breast, colon), hypertension, dyslipidemia, stroke, liver and gallbladder disease, sleep apnea and respiratory problems, osteoarthritis, gynecological problems.

The latest research found that obese heart patients respond better to strokes and hearts attacks compare to normal or underweight patients. Although obesity is a leading cause of heart disease, paradoxically scientists say fat and even high cholesterol may have protective benefits. But losing weight is still the best because obesity triggers more heart attacks and strokes.
Losing 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of the diseases.

What to do

For obesity, the safest and most effective way to reduce weight is to eat less and do more active, physically active. The W H O issued in the draft of its Global Strategy on Diet and Health concerning diet include :
Regarding for physical activity, WHO also recommended at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity physical activity on most days. Diet also helps to lose your weight if you are obese. No one agrees what a best diet for obesity is, but whatever diet works is okay, so long as it's healthy. So contact your dietitian to determine what diet is fit with your body need.
